About Us
Last modified: March 2, 2010We are a group of citizens from Manchester and Greater Manchester. We believe that Brimar’s products have been, and may still be, used to commit war crimes in various conflicts in the Middlle East and elsewhere.
We are organising a concerted campaign against Brimar. We want Brimar to cease producing parts for military use and to revert to the peaceful purposes for which many of the company’s products have been made.
That Brimar’s business is legal does not make it moral. We believe that people of the future will look back at the militarism of today as they look back now on the slave trade. Thankfully, anti-slave trade campaigners were not deterred from protesting by the fact that the slave trade followed “the absolute letter of the law”.
Brimar manufacture components for military hardware that all shares a common purpose – to destroy property and to kill and maim human beings. Brimar does not decide when, where or which people are to be maimed or killed. Those decisions are taken by politicians, generals and the men with their fingers on the triggers. However, Brimar provides the devices, takes the money and then washes its hands of the end use – the deaths, the carnage, the grief.
Those employed in the arms industry have to accept some responsibility for what they do. Working for an arms company like Brimar is not “just a job”. It is a job making components for weapons that destroy, that kill and maim people. People do have a choice. It is not a choice between destitution or making weapons.
A JOB SHOULD BE FOR LIFE NOT DEATH.
Brimar needs war. Brimar has no interest in peace. Not in Iraq, not in Afghanistan, not in Palestine. The only peace that Brimar wants is peace to go about its bloody business of arming “war-fighters around the world”.
We want to see Brimar stop manufacturing, selling or repairing components for military uses. We want the directors of Brimar to halt military production or resign their directorships. We want the workers to refuse to work on military components any more.
We will be here until they do.
